Ambient temperature mechanical properties of Al-8.5Fe-1.3V-1.7Si/SiCp composite

Ambient temperature mechanical properties of Al-8.5Fe-1.3V-1.7Si/15 vol.%SiCp composite sheet prepared by a spray deposition (SD)-rolling process were investigated. The experimental results show that the densification method of the as-deposited preforms has an obvious effect on the mechanical properties of the as-rolled sheets. The sigma(b) and delta were 535 MPa and 7%, respectively, for the sheet with the preforms extruded at 490 degrees C and then rolled at 490 degrees C. When the preforms were pressed at 450 degrees C and then rolled at 490 degrees C, the obtained sigma(b) and delta were up to 620MPa and 9.5%. The microstructures, density and rigidity are also examined.
